Default 2004 C5 Race Ready Questions

Hello fellow Corvetters
I Am brand new to the corvette world, and just took delivery of a Yellow 2004 C5. The car is stock to my knowledge with a 6-speed manual tranny. It came with upgraded head covers and a different air intake on the front, sorry I don't know what type. I am looking to get this car ready for the track. So far, I have changed all the fluids but the tranny, and brake. however, I already have (3) Motul RBF 600 DOT4 500ml brake fluid bottles on order to completely flush the braking system. I plan on also changing both belts. I have the right serpentine belt 19172680on order BUT can't find the A/C belt part number anywhere. can anyone share the part number and/or the link to the A/C belt, I would love to know the best transmission fluid to use when tracking this car.

thanks for everyone's help

The car is fast enough as it is. Fast is fun, but safety is preferred. Race cars have cages, real belts, etc. Before you flush the brakes. Upgrading the brakes with Wilwood's would be a start. Last I knew it was around $5000 for the car set. Then the steel braided hoses. 18 inch wheels for clearance on the brakes. Then the tires for the wheels. Stock brakes are fine if you go slow, but they will fail after hard use. There is a lot of info for the trans. oil out there to make a choice.

What kind of track duty - wheel to wheel, time trial, HPDE, autocross? If it's the last two, you don't need to go crazy with mods to get started. In addition to using fresh brake fluid with a higher boiling point, swap in some track friendly pads. Powerstop Track Day pads are cheap, decent pads and should last a few track days. Work on seat time first, then mod as you find shortcomings. The autocross / track sub-forum has quite a few informative threads about this topic - check it out!

Seats are a must, steering wheel if you're tall, additional cooling especially oil cooler. If you're going to a very fast track consider hood louvers which helps with cooling and prevents the well known "hood lift".
This is a helpful read.
