The headlights on my 50th Anniversary C-5 suddenly quit working. The fog lights, turn signals, daytime running lights, tail lights, brake lights, and turn signals all work fine. I have checked every fuse with an ohm meter, replaced the headlight control module, and the headlamp circuit breaker. I also checked the stops and bushings on the headlight doors. All are in good shape. The lights open and close easily manually but when opening the doors the lights still do not come on. A new headlight switch is over $200 but before I buy one have I missed anything? I don't know if this is a coincidence or not but the last time everything worked was before I installed a Hyper Tech program to change my cooling fan settings. I have since put everything back to stock which made no difference. I don't see how this program could affect operation of the lights anyway. This is driving me bonkers so any and all suggestions would be much appreciated. Before suggesting I take it to the dealer their labor rate is $175 an hour and I seriously doubt they know anything about Corvettes and I don't feel like paying for some mechanics education. Thanks again for any information.
Howdy John! I test, repair, and sell these headlight switches, primarily on eBay. I put this list together to help diagnose but if you are unsure, I am happy to test it for you before you commit to buy anything. First things to check are normally the fuses and splice packs. Easiest way to isolate the switch in the vehicle, if you are comfortable, I’d recommend disconnecting the large connector to the switch and jumping the male terminals W/S to open the doors and W/L to turn on the headlamps. A test jumper wire with alligator clips can be had from Autozone for a few bucks. Please DM me if I can help with anything.
Tony,
I can't thank you enough for the info it's much appreciated. I will do the headlight/ headlight door harness test when I get back to town. Your flow chart gave me a couple other things to check as well. If it is the switch I will be in contact with you. Thanks again,
John
