I have an awesome 99 auto with only 50k miles. Unfortunately we moved states and the car sat about 4 months in the rain etc. Today I swapped the battery on it to get it out of the driveway and it would not start. It would start with decent revs but within a few seconds it would sputter out. It would not respond to throttle inputs. The entire time it is throwing messages at me, service engine, no fuel, reduce power, low voltage etc.... Is it possible the battery I installed could be causing some of these issues? The terminals look great with good contact on the battery.
Sounds like a serial data issue…you’ll see gas gauge go to E, water temp maxes out and all those warning messages on the DIC will scroll through…if the data line is shorted to power or ground this may happen.

Any help would be appreciated.
Check the passenger footwell toward the firewall for presence of moisture. Also, you do not sound overly confident about the new battery. Just get it tested to be sure you are not chasing your tale.

Hey everyone,
Lucky131969 told me to check for moisture and I cant believe I didnt even notice about an inch of standing water under the dash on the passenger side. You can see the water line on the PCM and fuse box. The small fuses did not pop but are soaked. The larger looking things at the bottom look super corroded. The battery completely drained overnight.
Right now the effort is on drying it out to prevent mold and to get all the electronics dry. Im unsure of what to do now, replace the pcm and the fuse box?
Regarding the moisture it didnt seem to come from the roof as all side panels and dash etc are dry, just the passenger side floor?

Sorry to hear this. First step, if you have not already, is disconnecting the battery. That is not the PCM, is the BCM ( Body control module). If you are proficient at opening an assembly like this, you can attemp to dry it out/blow out, clean any corrosion, and reassemble. If not, you would be well served to send it out for repair(if replaced it will have to be programmed). Same procedure on the fuse box. Complete disassembly, blown out with compressed air, contacts cleaned where corrosion is present, etc. I will PM you my number if you need to chat.

So far just need to detach from the 64 connectors. Any hints before I hack it up or pull wire out on accident. I can't get the screws out as they seem to be captive. I'm unsure if they go all the way into the fuse block.

I don't have any guidance on your technique, or not to have a heavy hand. Just go slow, one at a time. There is plenty of room to work, so nothing should get "hacked up".
