Changed the oil on the Z today reset the oil life monitor. Took some time and aligned a head light panel that was driving me nuts. I brought the head lights up and down a bunch of times over the course of an hr to get the panel aligned. Started the car up to move it and the DIC is totally blank no information at all buttons do appear to work cause you can get things to beep with the dic reset buttons. Checked all the fuses for the DIC and even unhooked battery for a while still blank. Dimmer switch is full brightness I don’t think the headlights had anything to do with it but maybe a coincidence. Am I missing something else to check or did my DIC most likely just fail and need to pull the IPC and have it repaired.
Any advice greatly appreciated just want to make sure I didn’t forget something before I take the dash apart
First thing I would do is charge the battery. The electronics on this car are almost voodoo. They are sensitive to minor voltage drops sometimes. Just running the battery tender overnight has fixed some gremlins.
Im not a techie, just sharing something I’ve experienced.
Good point tried that last night and still no luck. Since everything else works as advertised in the instrument cluster expect the DIC I am beginning to think that part failed. Looked in service manual as well only thing it says is replace. Looks like next project is pulling it out and sending it off for repair
If indeed you find it a failed cluster there might be an easy fix for you.
The same era GM trucks have the same issue. Usually it's a broken solder joint on one of the power resistors. They expand and contract and the solder joint fatigues. If you are able to get the cluster apart, they're fairly easy to spot. They're the largest ones and often have discolouration around them. A simple retouch with a fine tipped iron is all that's needed if you find a broken one....usually can spot a hairline crack.
I've also had some luck simply cleaning the connection pins. If going this route, use contact cleaner specifically meant for sensitive electronics....ask me how I know.
I've never had the cluster out of the 'vette...but have done plenty of the trucks FWIW.

Thank you that’s probaby the culprit when I get it out I’ll take a look at it before I send it out. I’ve watched a bunch of videos all ready it doesn’t seem too bad getting out just patience.
