I am very new to the forum, so if this is in the wrong place please let me know. I also tried searching for this issue but didn't find anything, if it has been covered in a previous thread I'd love to read it.
I've had my 97 C5 for about 4 weeks now and haven't had any real issues.
But today on my way home I was doing about 75mph on the highway when suddenly the Traction Control went active and stayed on. Throttle was completely unresponsive but otherwise the car felt normal.
I turned the traction control off and took the first exit possible, parked it and turned it back on again and it seemed to work fine. I drove around for a little bit and it was still fine so I went home.
The DIC did not give me any new codes but it has 10-PCM P1571 H since before, which I understand is a communications issue between the PCM and TCS.
Does anyone know if this is something I should worry about or what could've caused it? And if so, where do I start troubleshooting?
I realize this might be nothing and just a random gremlin but I'm the anxious type so I'd rather ask a stupid question than do nothing at all.
Thanks again Rob!
Unfortunately that's a little bit out of my budget right now.
After a bit of digging and reading through Bill Curlees sticky post about grounding points I'm thinking that might be a good place to start.
Bill Dearborn wrote in another thread that "The PCM supplies 5 volts on the desired torque circuit to the Electronic Brake and Traction Control Module (EBTCM). The EBTCM toggles this 5 volt signal to a ground in order to produce a duty cycle signal" so it sounds like a bad ground could cause all sorts of issues with that circuit.
So I think I'll start with going over and cleaning the ground connections and ground plug, worst case I waste some time and get rid of some grime.
But I'm definitely still open for suggestions, this vehicle is very new to me
The PCM supply a 5 volt to the EBCTM module.
The EBCTM toggles the 5volt to ground depending on the amount of torq reduction the EBCTM want .
The signal looks like the last screendump .This DTC could be caused by a faulty EBCTM
Regarding scanners a good and cheap solution is the TOPDON Topscan blotooth dongle .
You can use it on most car models produced after 1996 .
I bought one last year (less then 80 USD and it was very good in my opinion with the low cost in mind. .
I have several scanners Tech2 , Tech2win (on laptop) ,Autel and a SnapOn Edge , but the Topscan is a easy choice sometimes when I want to scan a friends car

I think I see your point. But if I understand things correctly the DTC could be caused by any of four things: faulty EBCTM, faulty PCM, Sensors and/or Wiring. Wiring seems to be the cheapest and easiest thing to fix and I'm part of a makerspace with a lift so it's a pretty quick job and I figure it can't hurt to try.
I guess I could also try probing the circuit with an oscilloscope and make sure the lows and highs of the pwm signal is nice and consistent.
There's also a high probability of me not knowing what the hell I'm doing, so there's that. 😁
Speaking of faulty components, I see you're from southern Norway, I'm from western Sweden, got any tips for good places to find replacements for stuff like this?

That's quite affordable and seems to be available on EU amazon. Gonna bookmark that. Thanks!
I did bring up the need for a proper scanner for the previously mentioned makerspace and people seem to agree, so hopefully I can get access that way 🤞
The first thing I recommend to do when having a EBCTM problem is to verify proper voltages and grounds to the module .
Depending on the DTC I would verifty the wirings of the faulty signal
Below is the schematic of the rear mounted ebctm on your car
I bought me an extra spare EBCTM module from this Swedish company some years ago to my 2000 model C5
Otherwise I think you may need to search ebay for these module .

Yeah that makes sense and is fairly accessible. Thanks, I really appreciate the help!

I had a hunch, I was browsing their listings earlier, no EBCM module though
