Check Engine Light

Hello,
I wanted to see if there was a way to clear the codes as my Battery went dead and now I have a check engine light on.
Is this something that happens when the battery goes dead?I have an 02 coupe.
If so can someone please let me know what to do it clear the codes.
Someone said I should be able to do it throught the D.I.C?

go to top of page and click on "tools".
go down to tech tips.
over to c5.
scroll half way down the page.
there's your info.

I did it and it seemed to work!!! no more light!!
