Loosing my mind... chasing rear axle popping, when accelerating or letting off the throttle. It is only from the driver-side axle, see below...
I had to replace my driver side axle. I messed-up the shaft threads. I bought the most expensive axle replacement from Rock Auto, CARDONE 661374. It started this weird popping noise after about 3 months of use. I tried to go through the Rock Auto warranty replace process.. it was a train wreck and basically points you to the manufacturer, who does not know you have purchased their product (caveat emptor).
So I purchased another from Advance Auto (CARQUEST). It is doing the exact same thing.
I know I am not the only C5 owner facing this... Looking for what others have done.

...any help would be greatly appreciated.
Did you grease the splines between the axle and the hub? Check out the ultimate DIY sticky for popping axle fix.
...guess I will start with greasing the shaft splines and see what that gets me. Here's hoping
Good luck! There are really good odds the grease is what it needs. Hopefully you get lucky. I never had to deal with this issue myself after swapping axles, hubs and two rears. But it's happened enough to so many others it's listed on the ultimate DIY sticky list. Let us know how it goes.
I greased the axle splines per the "Popping Axle" sticky, and the popping is gone. It was popping pretty loudly so I knew immediately it resolved the issue.
