I think my car is possessed.......... 2004 Corvette, automatic........... I've had the car for about 3 years now and when I first got it, it had minor issues which needed to be handled. Something you'd expect from a 20 year old car. Now I'm not sure what's going on......... Not being a real mechanic, but a putzer and car admirer I have to admit I'm concerned that the darn thing might have something I can't even diagnose, much less fix. The problem is............ a couple of issues which I think all might be related. First.......... driving down the road minding my own business, and the head lights flip up and down, sometimes more than once. What research I've done says it could be voltage surge I think.......... To complicate the problem....... I'll be out washing it, the car has been off for an hour or so........ and sometimes you hear what appears to be the headlight motors activating...... sometimes the headlights flip up and down, mind you the car is off and been sitting for an hour. Possessed....... I know it. Secondly, related or not, I know not, but driving down the interstate with the cruise control on....... it kicks out. Possessed.......... I know it. Third, it's new trick is again driving down the road and it apparently flips a code stating service the Active Traction Control, and at the same time, it will flip to service the Antilock Brake System........ flip back and forth between the two until I hit the reset button a couple of times........ the message goes away, but the icons stay illuminated. Turn the car off and back on, it clears it completely. It might do it a day later, it might do it a couple of times before I get home, clear it, and all is well for a while. Being an old guy, I'm hesitant about taking it to a dealer for a multitude of reasons, but we won't go there right now. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated....... other than shoot it, or exorcized. Have a great day.
Also check if the carpet is damp under the dash on passenger side. If so, it's the AC drain line is plugged and the BCM got wet. Happened to me, car was possessed, absolutely bizarre things happening.
Check & clean chassis grounds! Disconnect battery, unplug every major electric plug you can find, blast with cleaner, re-plug.
My '04 sat for a long time before I bought it and had random gremlins. AHS, etc. cleaning everything up solved it 100%
Take the car to Cody’s Auto Diagnostics in Tucson…a dealership will only replace a bunch of parts…Cody will diagnose it !!..a video from his YouTube channel...the ABS message is causing the cruise control to disengage so just have to find a common thread between ABS and headlights...if you have the Twilight Sentinel option is it turned off ???...may be something to do with the Ambient Light Sensor.
Thanks for the heads up........ I'll look into Cody's for sure. I'm thinking it's something simple although annoying....... I'm hoping for the best. Thank you.
Fortunately the car is dry......... I don't have any leaks........... the car is garaged and seldom sees rain. I've heard that water can be a problem to computer and other things. The AC drain seems to be working......... it piddles on the garage floor regularly, especially during this time of year. Thanks for the advise sir.
Follow up............ I just looked up Cody's online............ it appears he doesn't take individuals, he only takes cars from dealerships, shops, and the like. DAMN.
Possessed car is a "scary" situation to deal with!... Particularly ones Corvette!... Remember that movie with the red Plymouth Fury?... Good luck man.... I'd sell it.
