Default ARP 12pt vs 6pt bolt kits

I've been awaiting ARP's reply to my email on what precisely are the differences (aside from the visual differences) between a 12pt and 6pt bolt of the same material. is there an actual yield difference? torque specs different? Does anyone know the facts? there is definitely a cost difference between the 2 otherwise identical bolts/nuts.

I talked to my engine guy and he said there was no diff. between the 12pt. and the 6pt., just the nut. I opted for the 6's since they are cheaper and do the same job. Also from what I researched the 12's are on backorder and will be for a while. Hope this helps with your decision

well, ARP better have a better reason than 'just a different shape' to charge that much more over the 6pt. Long ago someone that has been using ARP for many years explained some convincing reason to me, and i forgot what it was. Hmmmm...
When i built my motor last year i bought to 12 pt over the 6 pt. Those that i am helping with their motor mods around here have turned to me for this answer. If there isnt one, i will tell them just to buy the 6pt set.

A buddy and I installed the 6-pt. ARP head studs when we did h/c on both our cars recently and have had zero issues. I have had my heads off several times since and they held the torque with no problem. I'd be interested to hear what the differences are as well.

I think its mainly preference. I got the 12 points because I feel like they are easier to torque down, the socket moves less/less chance of rounding off nuts.

Seems I have designed a few nuts & bolts ...........
12 point head reduces the chance of tool slippage.
Smaller head allows for use in confined areas.

A 12 Point design offers the same bearing surface as a hexagon head cap screw or socket head screw of comparable size.

Other features include better torque distribution due to less peak loads and effective use in counter-bored or spot faced applications because of smaller head diameters.

Have a nice day
