Default Heads and Cam w/o Headers??

Well I am seriously planning on taking my car to get a HEads and cam package in the month or so. I plan on just getting the heads, cam, and pulley and tuning without getting the headers to see what numbers she will put out.
I plan on getting headers and will due those myself after the H/C is complete. Will I need to retune after I get the headers or should the tuning still be fine?
I know it really isn't the wisest thing as I should do everything while it is all apart, but I am kinda interested to see how restrictive the stock manifolds and cats are.
Some thoughts???

That's a giant pain in the butt just to see how much more power you get from headers. :skep:

I would not recommend it. You will gain 15 to 20 easily with the headers. You are spending the money to increase airflow to the engine and not letting it out properly.. :seeya :seeya

I am with you. Actually, I am considering the same thing. Headers are a separate install and the cost for installing headers does not get reduced if you do it at the same time. I am very interested in this test too.

I would expect to see more gains from the headers after the head/cam install.

Keep us posted. As for me, I've got to get wheels and tires before I do anything else. . . :yesnod:

By the way, why is it that headers do not appear to help the supercharged cars too much?

Could we see the same thing with a head/cam?

Headers do have to be unbolted to swap the heads.

Also regarding tuning you will more than likely need to have it retuned as well after the headers are added.

Normally we don't charge extra for header install while doing a head and cam swap, unless there is welding required and then the charge is still minimal.

As for headers on a N/A motor it is suggested to be done because you are taking in more air and you have to get rid of that air just as quick. Without headers you will get backpressure in the manifold which could cause detonation.

As fo headers on blower cars these guys do pick up a decent amount of torque when headers are added to the car.

 Oh, crums. . .I guess I will go ahead and purchase my headers. If they already have to come off for the heads to be installed. . .it looks like headers will be on the way!

 You guys rule!

So much for that thought. I got a great deal on a set of TPIS's that I should be picking up in the nest week or so.
I was just trying to maybe offset the cost by just getting the H/C and tune and due the headers later since it would only cost me my time. I figured a retune might be necessary so that was the main determining factor.....plus the great deal on the headers
:D

Thanks for the input guys.

just as a note of proof....

my car put down ~425 rwhp with B&B SHORTY headers and cats, which I figure were at least 10 to 15 rwhp more than stock manifolds

I switched to FLP long tubes with no cats.....and put down ~443 and also gained 11 rwtq

since they come off anyway during a head swap, it is a free install !!!!

like Nike says........ JUST do it :hurray:

thanks

Ben, are you bringing your car to More Performance for the mods? Good move with the headers--they really open it up.

Hogurt the ATIs love headers! The magnussons only like themm but LT headers accentuate every C5--I see you have a pair on order

My experiences below, hope this helps.

rwhp/tq before H/C = 309/322
after H/C = 350/334
after headers = 367/347
after catback = 374/347
