Anyone else heard of this? I found one archived post that said a dealer did it by turning the wheel hard to the right with column locked. My '01 gives a message "Service column lock", GM says it's after recall dates. They obviously never fixed this, just pulled the recall and I'm not going to pay $300 bucks to replace it with another defective lock module. I'm busy building a house and don't have time to install a CLB but I do have time to break the POS. Anyone?
Re: Breaking the column lock as permanent cure (Walt Donovan)
Walt,
That is the same way I felt after mine locked up on me. I through a little hissy fit with GM since it fell outside of their recall; oh I'm sorry their campaign. They ended up replacing it free of charge. I then took about 45 min to 1 hour to install the CLB that I bought used from a forum member. To me it was the best hour spent for the peace of mind and my sanity. Best of luck but I would make the time to install the CLB!!

Call the 800 # in your owners manual and explain the situation....
CL is a hot topic at GM right now
We had the dealer do the recall & leave the pin out

:iagree: If you don't, sooner or later the CAR is going to MAKE you take the time to have it flatbedded to a dealer or worse such as possibly locking up while you're in motion.
Getting under that dash and doing mine was the best 30 minute investment in my "piece of mind" that I've ever done on the car. My CLB is from C5 Solutions and the install is actually quite easy and straightforward. I've had zero problems since.

Must be the dealer, just put mine in the shop for some other work and the service manger called and told me they had a colum lock recall and he is fixing mine for free. And I don't fall in the vin# range 98 A4 coupe

CLB is a must. I put one in years ago and glad I did! How do I know I am glad I did you ask? I went on a long road trip with folks that didn't have a CLB and quess what happened miles from anywhere at the Grand Canyon?
Watching them made me glad. :steering:
