I have an 02 zo6 ls3 bottom end ls6 top end, recently noticed some misfiring. I decided to change the plugs and 3 of the 8 plus all on one side, the anode looks broken off. Has anyone ever seen this before
Im not too sure, to be honest I had pat g in victoria tx tune it for me.
Was this yesterday, back in 2005, 4 miles ago, 130k miles ago?
That electrode looks melted to me. Not sure that wouldn't be worse than physical contact...
Makes you wonder where the missing pieces went though, doesn't it?
Lay those plugs on a flat surface and take some focused, well lit pictures if you hope that anyone looking at them can tell you anything useful.

That is plenty useful, and it's most likely from a lean condition. The real shocker comes from the borescope.
I had the engine forged, but twice now ive had to have it pulled to have the engine redone. Oil was bypassing the rings in one of the cylinders. The last time we had the engine done, was when i put it on the dyno at pats place, but after around 5000 rpm the boost dropped. We figured it was belt slip. Since thing i havent been romping on the car much, and have been driving it normally. Even letting the car sit for the most part as im tired of paying for it to get fixed. The engine maybe has a few thousand miles on it since it was last tuned.
I may be wrong, but I'm with Lucky and Dads2k on this one. Borescope can't hurt, but I doubt you'll find any of those ground straps. Maybe a few distressed piston crowns! I think they slowly burned away, vaporized, etc. Kinda/sorta like a gasoline powered EDM (Electric Discharge Machine). Are these the OEM heat range? What brand?
Heres a few pics i took of cylinders 3, 5, 7. I didnt have alot of time ony my hands, but ill try to take better more distinct snaps when i get a chance. May take me a few days.
I’d say you have a severe lean condition in boost. Those are melted.
So if this was once tuned and fine, something is amiss and it’s not going to be the tune.
Furl pressure at WOT. Plugged injectors on those holes etc.
Put a wideband on it, give it a toot and see what’s up.
Lucky, Ron - can you teach me a little about the fueling system? What might make three of the four cylinders on the same side lean? Something about the way the system pressurizes the injectors on one side? Something specific to boosted engines?
No one asked you What brand and part # of plug are those ???
Those don't look like a lean melted down tips Looks more like something got sucked up into your intake and Broke the tips way off and way deep into the strap ----Could even be water intrusion or from the car wash---- as water dose not compress like air and could break off tips that severely--

The first picture in the OP's first post clearly show what type of plugs he is running.
Put down the mouse......and back away from your computer slowly.
