Default c5 corvette dies momentarily.

so the issue is as follows. I drive my car normally, and seemingly randomly the gauge cluster resets, check engine light turns on, and engine dies. half a second later the engine is back to normal until the next hiccup.
more info that could be useful: MPG data is reset after every hiccup. also just cleaned the ignition switch contacts.

You should read the DIC without turning the car off to see if any codes are set.

What is the full background on this car? Stock? Modified? Original owner? Events leading up to the problem starting. Why did you clean the ignition switch contacts?

thanks for the response. the car has as follows:
BTR stg4 cam pushrods double valve springs, port polished heads, full custom exhaust with catless headers, built transmission. very light build. i cleaned the ignition switch contacts because my other corvettes had a similar problem turning off randomly, and cleaning those fixed it. i just bought the car with the issue already present.

If you are sanding the contacts on the ignition switch for the cleaning (like most seem to do).....that is just a band aid. Once the plating is removed from arcing, corrosion, or sanding...the problem will definitely happen again.

All standard rules apply here. Inspecting all engine/chassis grounds and power connections. Common areas where grounds are left loose are rear left cylinder head and lower left engine block. I would check everything.

sounds good. will do. and yessir it is a bandaid, but if it WAS the culprit, then the cleaning would have confirmed my suspicion without throwing parts. thank you for your time.

Default End of thread-solution

so i pulled the BCM out of the car and swapped it with another BCM i had on the shelf. did the relearn blah blah. same issue. so i pulled the harness out and inspected for broken/melted wires. there were a few that looks messed up so i replaced the section of weird wires with some in my box. i then cleaned all the connections on the pigtails to the BCM, using baking soda and water. all that combined, car drives as normal now. thanks for the attempts to help. hope this can help someone in the future.

There are acceptable methods for cleaning plug contacts for the BCM......water and baking soda are not on the list. Never introduce water to an electrical connector on purpose. Water has been the demise of many BCMs.

I see you were having more issues…seeing you are the young owner of an auto shop I’d invest in a labscope (preferably an 8 channel) if you don’t use one already…don’t know how you can diagnose cars without one…best thing to use on connectors is Deoxit…not baking soda and water !!
