I just got a BBK throttle body. Are there any concerns with swapping components from the stock TB to the BBK? Specifically the solinoid/ electrical components. I've heard rumor of a problem with timing/lining up the gears.
Re: Help with throttle body install... (SpyRacing)
I swapped out my TP with a P&P TB not long ago without incident. The only gotcha is that you need a #20 Tamper-proof Torx bit to get the screws off. Other than that, just pull the modules off and install them on the new TB.
As I am looking since a while for an TB-exchange with a "SHANER S2"-TB, I as well would like to ask if there are specific concerns with aftermarket TBs (gearing / electronics, aso).
Would it be possible, Ed, you might give us here some more detailed infos about your succesful way you went with your P&P TB ? I unfortunately do not kow the P&P TB.
As always, thank's in advance !
ED, I WELL KNOW AND APPRECIATE YOU AS A REAL AND STRAIGHT FOREWARD DETERMINED CORVETTE PERFORMER - AWESOME !! I with much pleasure make a bow before you :smash:

Re: Help with throttle body install... (SwissVette_Joe)
Hey, Joe! :seeya Look for my reply to your awesome email by this weekend!
As far as the TB, I installed a ported & polished (P&P) throttle body I got from MMS while doing my heads/cam job recently with a buddy. Swapping it out is very straightfoward. You simply unscrew the throttle plate motor/gear assembly and, upon pulling it off, you'll see that re-installing it only requires that you insert the assembly in the same orientation on the new TB. The gears will mate together easily as you insert them. The TPS on the opposite side is similar. Unscrew it and insert it into the new TB in the same orientation as on the original.
Make sure the gears have enough grease and that you transfer the gaskets to the new TB. Also, be sure and use loctite on the screws. Don't over-torque the screws when you mount the TB to the intake.
PLEASE, DO NOT WORRY AT ALL - other personal Priorities first, and, please take your time, no question to hurry at all !!  we will not being lost in the mean time.........
Thanks for the info. If I am not wrong, the P&P TB is a product uniquely offered by MMS ? So I was wrong when I thought P&P is a Trade Mark. No, it stands for ported and polished. I am just too stupid....... :D
I will re-check all the offers from MMS via their www as well.
With united CORVETTE-greetings from Mirjam and me myself.

Re: Help with throttle body install... (SwissVette_Joe)
 Yes, Joe. P&P=ported and polished. I ordered all major components from MMS and so that was the source for my TB; however, I don't have experience with other vendor's TB products so can't speak to those but I would imagine performance would be similar for an equivalent amount of porting. Mine has worked with no problems. Transferring components and installation took all of 15 minutes.
Carole and I send our good wishes to you and Mirjam.
Re: Help with throttle body install... (SpyRacing)
I've read some stuff in the archives reference the BBK TB, about backing the "set screw" off and then having to fine tune it to get the idle correct? Anyone, no about this?
Re: Help with throttle body install... (SpyRacing)
SpyRacing, hi,
I do not know more of your remarks, but a while ago, I discussed these issues amongst others with MTI / HOUSTON. They DID NOT recommend this type of TB.
However, on the backside of the BBK, you must install kind of an adapterplate which again reduces the outlet-size back to the standard entry volume of the Intake Manifold (either LS 1-standard or the ZO6-type).
Resultant : BBK's TB does not represent any advantage of the much bigger inlet opening and bigger diameter T-blade. Just the hole in your money-pocket may gain some from size.........oh well........
Re: Help with BBK throttle body install... (SpyRacing)
I recently installed this very one from BBK and had no problems whatsoever. I would also have to disagree that the spacer plate reduces the opening size back down. It has a small contour to it but is the same size opening as the improved TB. I've had no problems with mine.
Re: Help with BBK throttle body install... (BlueDream)
BlueDream, thanks for your interesting info which does not comply with the one I had.
Could you describe any of the "new" behaviour of your car since the install ? What are your general experiences with this 80mm BBK ? Did you perform any Dyno-runs to check out closer, re performance gains ?
Re: Help with BBK throttle body install... (SwissVette_Joe)
Hey Joe. I actually did all my modifications at one time. I changed out everything from the fog-light covers all the way into the manifold (MAF, Airbridge, Throttle-body and filter) and even installed the Stingers. Since then have had absolutely no problems with it. Idle was great from the start and no computer issues (related to this stuff).
Because all the changes were made at one time, I can't say that the MAF did this much of a change or that the TB help x amount. I haven't made any dyno runs with it so I don't have any before-after numbers to justify the changes. I ordered these parts based on the premise that increased airflow all the way into the engine will help with future mod plans (maybe supercharger or heads/cam).
I can only say that my azz-o-meter noticed an immediate improvement. Throttle response seems a little better and the car is more enjoyable to drive. The biggest difference with these changes have been on the open road. Accelerating from 40 and up is just increadible since it has almost created a ram-air type effect.
I haven't learned to post pics yet but I did take some of the stock TB sitting beside the new one. You can tell a difference. Plus the look of the new one is another bonus.
Re: Help with BBK throttle body install... (BlueDream)
BlueDream, thanks for your supplementary infos !
Now, my evaluation may go still stronger and further supported with the experiences of "PATCHES" / Ed, who was nice enough to assist me greatly as well.
Again, thanks for your time, Blue Dream, and hope you may enjoy your Car in better weather conditions as we actually have here around.
Re: Help with BBK throttle body install... (SwissVette_Joe)
Thanks Joe. The weather here in South GA hasn't been too bad but I'm looking forward to my first Spring and Summer weather with the Vette. Hope you enjoy your Vette no matter what mods you decide on.
Re: Help with BBK throttle body install... (BlueDream)
Thanks for the info guys.
I got the answer I think I was looking for from Cyrus who made the install back in 01, and had an archived post. The set screw sits on the bottom of the TB, in a hole on the driver's side, and may need adjustment on used TBs that have been tuned for cars with h/c mods. If your car trips codes with the new TB installed, pull the TB off, and back the set screw out 4 turns. Reset the computer by disconnecting the battery for a while. Put the TB back on, reconnect the battery, and drive around for 30 minutes. Observe how the car idles and repeat the process, tightening the screw now, until proper idle is achieved.
