Default Torque tube bearings

My torque tube is on the verge for blowing up so I am going to replace the bearings in it. Only problem is that my car is an 2000 and those are a split year for the bearings. I can just take it apart and look at it but I would rather not have my car down for even more time. It is an FRC if that matters but is there any way I can find out before hand?

Not sure what you mean by "split year". While my parts manual only goes up to 2002, The front bearing p/n remains the same for manual and auto from 97-02. The rear bearing p/n did change in 2000. In both cases, there is only on part number designated for front and one part number designated for rear for a 2000.

Front - 12456210
Rear - 12456221

If snap ring style torque tube you need 2 6008 bearings and 1 6007. If bolt style torque tube then 1 6010, 1 6008, and 1 6007. If you buy from Texas drivetrain you will get bearings for both and guibos. Do yourself a favor and replace the guibos too.

Something I forgot to add, mark everything before you take it apart because they are balanced. Picture shows bearings for a 2000 Manual transmission torque tube, snap ring style, with 10mm bolts for couplers. If you have a bolt style then you would need 1 6010-2rs1 and 1 6008-2rs1 instead. The snap ring style is the later style. The bolt one is the earlier style. Yes they did split them mid year at some point.

is there a telltale of which tube one has from the outside? Texas drivetrain supply’s SKF? Good bearings.

I bought them from Texas Drivetrain. They put 2 6008, 1 6007, and 1 6010 in the box. So I would have been able to do either type. I would recommend buying from them. Shipped the day after I ordered.

I forgot to add to my reply. If your bellhousing the connects to your trans is welded on to the torque tube then you have the snap ring style. This does not guarantee having 12mm bolts though. If your rear bellhousing bolts to the torque tube you have the bolt style.

This pic is bolt style.

This pic is snap ring style.

Connects to Trans or motor? I have the first pic with bolts but that end is the front on the motor.

CFight,
For those two pics - The picture that shows the complete torque tube, the end that connects to the transmission is on the left. The picture that shows only one end, that is the end that connects to the transmission. Those pics are ones I found on google and put up here as a reference. The torque tube for all styles is going to unbolt from your clutch end.

Getting into this one late. All info I saw is sound.

TDP sells good product.

"While you're in there" this is the time to consider TMODcustoms for the shift linkage mod if you're on a stick.

Good point I learned is bolt vs weld for visual ID externally for bolt vs snap ring retainer. Agreed, snap ring does not guarantee 12mm. I learned this the semi hard way. I was originally going to keep/use a TT I had picked up for myself, but ended up selling and going to a different setup. I sold it as a 12mm having never opened it up because it was the snap ring. There was a crossover year in 2001 I believe where some were still 10mm. The buyer opened it to find it as a 10mm. I didn't know better. He didn't know better. It was luck of the draw. Now I certainly know better. Although if I ever see the dude, I sold it to him in good faith not scamming him and had even given him my snap ring tool which he kept and ghosted me. He's local so we'll cross paths at some point this year......
