I know that the blackwing which I have won't pass CA visual portion of the smog inspection and that the computor had to do a relearn after the install. If I change back to the stock box for the smog check does the computor have to do another relearn before I try and get it smooged?
You shouldn't have to get your car smogged for another couple of years---I believe California doesn't require semi-annual smog checks of new cars until they are four years old. Does your registration renewal notice say "Smog Check Required" up at the top?
I also thought the Blackwing had a CARB exemption number, which would be all you would need to get it past the visual.
If I'm wrong on both counts, I agree with the above post--just take it in, I doubt most shops will fail you for the intake.
Finally, if you do switch back, you should either do an idle re-learn, or just drive for a couple weeks before going in for the check.
You won't have to worry abou smog until 2005. Cars don't have to be smogged until they're 4 years old. I just got my first smog notice, and my Vette is a '99.
in Cal.,you smog your veh. every (4) years.I belive the Black wing is Carb exempt. If you have the carb sticker on your car, your good to go. :chevy :chevy :flag :flag :chevy :chevy

You smog every 2 years after the first four year period....
Had mine smogged last week and passed with flying colors. They checked if the hose at the Blackwing was properly connected.
No problems, not even a comment on the Blackwing. Amazing how clean these LS1 engines run.
I'm good for another 2 years now
I purchased my 03 in Nov 2002 and according to the DMV, it doesn't need smog until 2007.
If you put a CARB sticker on a part, there is really no way a smog place can check to see if the CARB number actually belongs to that specific part. In other words, you can take a CARB sticker from a K&N filter and put it on a BlackWing and the smog person wouldn't know the difference.
I checked with Shawn at LAPD about CARB certification on the Blackwing. He stated that it was NOT CARB certified as far as he knew. It should pass smog without any problems.
