Re: "Abby Normal" High Oil Temp.....Help?! (Mean Green 2000)
I would consider doing and oil change and putting a new filter on. Sometimes you get a bad filter, it gets blocked, and the oil is forced through the bypass. If you don't need an oil change, just change the filter and top off the oil.
Re: "Abby Normal" High Oil Temp.....Help?! (davidfarmer)
thanks David....I just recently did an oil change, but I have a stock of filters on hand and oil is "cheap insurance"....so I'll take your advice and change it when we get back from the track tomorrow evening :)

:nono: change it BEFORE the track, why risk the motor racing? Plus, if you have a restriction in your filter, it's taking up a couple horsepower to push the oil past it :yesnod:
Re: "Abby Normal" High Oil Temp.....Help?! (Mean Green 2000)
Well I changed the filter last nite before the races today and no change.....I know that the temps are "within" range but when you're an old-time mechanic/navy machinist, you get used to the fine tuned rythm of the equipment and I've done the same with the vette :)
I know how it should sound and what normal temps and pressure are at all times....so I know when I get an increase of 10 psi and at least 10 degrees increase in oil pressure and temps, I know something is up :(
Hopefully the dealer will agree, I only have about 6 weeks before the end of the warranty :(
Re: "Abby Normal" High Oil Temp.....Help?! (Mean Green 2000)
MG,
What are you oil temps now? In below freezing temps here in Cincinnati, my oil temps stay between 180*-184* and this running a 160* thermostat and Hypertech. Hopefully other's can chime in on their oil temps.
Re: "Abby Normal" High Oil Temp.....Help?! (Mean Green 2000)
I would check for debris clogging radiator. My 427 runs on the warmer side even on 50 degree days.I found switching to Red Line lubes lowered my summer temps by 15 or so degrees and it still gets to 190-195 in the winter.
Come 110 degree days I'll run at 205-215.With MO1 I run 210-225.
You may want to install a race radiator with integral oil cooler. Its not a miracle product but the radiator we sell at Xtreme M.S. does a great job at keeping things cool.
You will notice the oil and water temps are within 5% of each other or less.when standing in traffic it helps but being it needs air passing through,it works best at speed.A good example would be a 225 water and 220 oil it will stay that way with fans only.Get her up to 45+ mph and in 10 minutes they drop by12-15% where a stock setup just cant disapate that much heat.
They work great on my Z06 and mine has LPE Twin Turbos blowing a 427 C5R so if it works well on my car the results of a naturally aspirated motor in theory should be even more dramatic.
Please feel free to call us for advice Nate and Mike are wizards and may come up with more suggestions. If your water temp was HI as well I would suspect a T-Stat or even a pressure test on the coolant system but be sure your coolant level is full I check once every 7-10 days at fill up but its expensive and fast and Its harder to work on your own car owning a Mod shop than the Avge. guy with a credit card. You can click the Xtreme link and visit our web site or feel free advise wont cost YA!!.Good Luck Dave S.

[QUOTE]Hope your oil pump is not going south like it did on Jim Halls car back in 00 or 01! I don't remember the symptoms, have the dealer check it out.[QUOTE]
:iagree:
...but if it is, this would be a great time to swap in a new cam... :D

thanks man....I may just do that......when I get back to Tampa, I'll pull codes and see if there's anything there, if not.....it's off to the dealer it goes as I only have 6 weeks left under warranty and need some other stuff checked out anyway :)
Re: "Abby Normal" High Oil Temp.....Help?! (TLewis4095)
Radiator clogged w/debris! I clean mine every 2-3 months. Always full of grass/weeds/etc.
:yesnod: Mark, I had the same issues and the radiator looked as if there was a birds nest in there. This is also a good opportunity to clean your votex filter  If you want to play it safe give Greg Costanzo at Roger Whitley a call an set up an appointment.
Re: "Abby Normal" High Oil Temp.....Help?! (Snake Slayer)
thanks you two :D
I'll check that as soon as I'm back in town :)......hopefully it's that simple and Cecil, I gotta bring it in for the "cricket chirpping" and the top, but like y'all said, hopefully it's the radiator :D
Re: "Abby Normal" High Oil Temp.....Help?! (Mean Green 2000)
my temps were up to 207 on the way to the track and I ran all the way in od, and it was 54 degrees out :(
207.............!!! Mine were 265 at the roadcourse (with air temps at 45) at Gainesville!!
My drive home today showed 221....but I hit a 140 today............... :chevy
Usually my temp is 207 with 10W30 Mobile 1. I use 10W30 rather than 5W30 cause I drive a bit hard........ usually. Oh yeah, I run 7 QTs also...............
Re: "Abby Normal" High Oil Temp.....Help?! (VNAMVET)
I hear ya Craig and I wouldn't be "worried" had that been the norm for me, but like I mentioned, when I see a change like that, outside the norm of what I observe, then something's gotta be up :)
Old habit from standing watch in the engine room, history tracking and trend spotting ;) :D
