Default Remove steering bracket to access hissing noise

Hello!

I have a hissing noise somewhere between the steering wheel and the heater box. I was wondering if I can remove the metal bracket that holds the steering wheel? I have seen plenty of videos on removing the heater box (but it isn't as simple as mine it seems), but none on removing the bracket so makes me think not a good idea. Heater box is at an impasse, I cannot access the passenger side nut without removing more hoses, the steering wheel side seems like a better route but not sure if possible/safe to do so... if it is, are there are service manual docs or youtube anyone has run across?

Thanks!

Did you troubleshoot from the vacumm solenoid so you at least know what you are targeting? In other words, did you plug the engine vacuum source, and the noise stops. Further, you can check for leaks one line at a time as well.

thanks, I’m 99% sure, but will plug the source to confirm. I think I have a diagram of the lines, I’m just not sure how to access most of it without removing the heater box or this steering wheel.

ill start with plugging source to confirm. Thanks

The purple line should be source vacuum. You can get creative with making a small jumper, and direct vacuum to the line of concern as well.

A side note. I remember some years ago some guy chasing noise in that area. Turned out the noise from the previous owner drilling a hole in the cowl to remove the OPS and not patching the hole.
