I replaced the front bushing by shifter and it just isn’t exactly feel right, kinda doesn’t stay right in d or r pops into neutral, looking into hole noticed about 9 inches back the inner cable is exposed and housing is disconnected, does that mean cable is bad , I haven’t checked rear bushing yet or started the car. Thanks

When mine fell off, I just replaced the whole thing, cable and all. Like new, perfect.
Also on some earlier GM auto cars you must re align the PRNDL Switch
There are instructions on You Tube videos There are lines and dots that must line up properly and are adjustable----Easy fix
