Is there any gain to running a X pipe right off of the headers instead of straight pipes into your mid X pipe? Does this increase the scavenging effect?
Phillip
For clarification of setups:
Setup 1:
TPIS headers -> MTI x pipe -> factory H pipe
Vs:
Setup 2:
TPIS headers -> 16" cat eliminators -> magnaflow X pipe
Some say that setup 1 works better because the x pipe helps exhaust scavenging. Anyone know about this?

The best place for the X-pipe is 16-18 inches after the headers (according to an engine expert). He stated the problem on the C5 is this is not possible without removing/changing the cats ("off-road X-pipe").
I have the MTI off-road X-Pipe placed right behind the headers......and I actually lost a few HP & TQ at about 4000 rpms, and i didn't pick up any additional HP or TQ anywhere else. So the short answer is "it's not worth the $$$ or headache". IMO.
FYI, this dyno comparison was done on my '97 vette with MTI stage 2 heads, MTI Hammer Cam, and TPIS headers w/MTI off-road X-pipe......and nothing else was added, changed or deleted bewteen dyno runs except the off-road x-pipe.
Here's the dyno comparison. The Black TQ line and Green HP line are the "before" dyno and the Red & Blue lines are the "after" dyno.
I am having a X pipe custom made, should be here next week or so. I will hit the dyno and get some real results. The company was very informative and they said that most of the X pipes on the market aren't built correctly but they claim to have extensive experience with Nascar and high HP applications and he said I should definitely see a gain on the dyno.
