C5 reduced engine power , service active handling system
So my c5 has been in storage for some time. I haven't driven it at all in a year unfortunately. I put a new battery in it and started to go over the entire car. While idling I got a p1125 error and the dash shows " reduced power service active handling system. "
I believe this error is tied to throttle position sensor if I'm correct? I figured maybe driving it a bit weird cause the errors to maybe clear themselves but I can't get talking to me over about 20 miles an hour on reduced power. What's the best method for me to figure out how to get this fixed. I read a bunch of other posts on the site but was wondering if there is a series of things I need to look for. Thanks for the help
This DTC is related to the pedal sensors .
The TAC module both feed 5 volt supply and receive sensor signals from all three ..
I recommend someone with a scanner (Tech2 or similar ) to observe these voltages on the scanner with key ON , engine OFF when you press the pedal all the way to floor .
The DTC indicate two or three sensor values out of range
Hey everybody just a quick update on this issue. I guess I got kind of lucky I replaced the TPS and the problem is gone. No codes. The tire sensors are definitely off but that's not causing anything in the car. I'm hoping that driving it again may get things back to normal as far as those pressure sensors go. But as far as the errors all good
So my reduced power saga continues. I just picked my car up from having a warranty replacement on the power steering pulley. On my way home it went in to reduce power mode again. It said remove key wait 10 seconds which I did and it came out of reduce power mode and then I didn't have any more issues at that point.
Today I took it out for another run and after about 10 minutes of driving it did it again. Today I got these three codes: 1221, 1120 and 1125. I parked and went to work. When I got out it ran with no issues.then around the corner from home I accelerated from a stop sign and it happened again. 1221 code.the car does have a miss that I noticed. I also had a 1516 code earlier
I have replaced the TPS, the accelerator pedal with one that was tested supposedly. New plugs and wires. New battery. The issue is intermittent.
What should next steps be?
Could this be tied to the motor that operates the throttle body?
Is there a procedure to clean the TB?
This is officially driving me nuts.
Check and tighten battery terminals. check wires going to Throttle Body. I had on break and the car went into limp mode. A loose battery connection will cause the issues you have.
Check all the grounds under the hood and look for any critter damage from chewing on the wires.
I had an intermittent issue with my car going into limp mode. Couldn't figure it out for a while. One day I dropped my wife off for an appointment she had. She opened and closed the passenger door and the car went into limp mode. Logic dictated it had something to do with the passenger door wire loom. Low and behold I had one frayed wire in the passenger door loom causing the issue. Not the easiest wires to identify a fray but once I did locate it and wrap the individual wire with a tiny sliver of electrical tape the issue has not occurred since 2008.
The same wire fray on wires in the driver side loom can cause the same issue. Something worth investigating. Do a search on the tech forum and you should find info on this. You'll likely also find my post from many years ago.
So today I had a chance to take a look. The seal on the plug was a mess. I tried shrinkwrapping the joint together.
I turned the key and got errors without even starting the car. 1120,1220,1221 1516. I looked at the plug and one of the terminals looked kind of weird and dark. In my picture I also saw something that looked like corrosion so I cleaned out all the terminals took off the seal and plugged the TPS sensor in fully. Started the car and it ran without going into limp mode.
I guess I'm going to go for a process of elimination and replace the pigtail and see where that gets me.
Well after all of this TPS sensor, pedal replacement and issues, I'm almost scared to say I got it.
I replaced the plug and took it out for a 20 mile drive and no issues at all. No errors. I hope this is it but that plug and seal must have been shot.
