Today as I was driving I looked down and noticed that my oil pressure gage was buried! I quickly checked the computer, which told me that my oil pressure was 129 psi. I had to keep driving and I also noticed that the pressure never fluxuated from 129. I let the car sit for a while only to discover that nothing has changed. When I start the car the pressure needle goes to max and the computer still reads 129 psi. I changed the oil about 1200 miles ago. Can somebody tell me what might be wrong and possibly how to fix it without going to the dealer??? Thank you.
First of all, if you really have 129psi oil pressure then you have serious problems. Second, why not contact the dealer? it could be something simple. I would call them first thing in the morning withut starting the car. Why take chances!
It is unusual to have high pressure. Several members have had failed pumps causing total loss of pressure. I would check for a clogged filter, replace it and check for junk in the filter you removed. Hope that it is not serious.
oil pressure sensor it's under the manifold, you have to take the manifold off to get to it. just had mine replaced at the dealer did the same thing peged out at 129 psi
Failed pressure sensor is a very common problem and always results in a pegged meter. I had the same problem and changed out my sensor two weekends ago. It's tucked at the rear of the intake manifold which has to come off to get at it. :seeya
I have the same problem (128 PSI), will it hurt the car if I don't change it? I know the part costs around $45, but I am afraid the dealer is gonna rip me apart with the labor. How hard is it to replace it myself? Thanks

The failed sensor itself will not harm the engine; however, since the sensor is not operating correctly, if oil pressure actually drops, you won't know until it is too late.
To replace, just remove the intake manifold. Call a few dealers and get a price, then call a local shop.
