Make sure the crappy side post connections are perfect and tight.
My son had this happen to his old 98 Camaro SS. You could try and start it and NOTHING. You can jump it and it will run.
Finally I had him just hold the key in crank while I was yanking on battery cables and bam it turned over. Ended up being a not visible bad side post connection.
Just because the battery shows 12.6 volts doesn’t mean it good…get your battery load tested and if it’s good I’d do a voltage drop check on the starting system if you have a DVOM before condemning the starter.
A couple years ago I had a battery in my C5Z <6 months old die. I was initially in denial it was the battery... obviously (and thankfully) it still had a viable warranty.
When it comes to buying batteries these days, your best bet is to look for the best deal and the best warranty. Usually with Advance you can stack discounts online to pick it up in store and get a nice price on the top of the line gold batteries. Stay away from Optima, they went to crap back around 2010 when production went south of the border.
