Default IS THIS TRUE OR NOT???

I heard from a reliable source that on the Corvettes, (possibly othe made GM cars) that when these cars get BELOW 1/2 a tank of gas that the timing curve is NOT as strong as when the car had over a 1/2 tank of gas.

He said that when he races he ALWAYS races with OVER 1/2 tank of gas. whatya guys think of this? i tend to believe this

I have heard that from someone before but I do not buy it. I have had my cars on scanners many times over and under 1/2 tanks of gas and I never noticed the timing change. The LS1 edit program has no provisions relating to fuel level. I am not saying this cant be true but I have yet to see any evidence from my end :seeya :seeya

I find it difficult to believe.

They can't even make a tank sender unit that knows if it's full or empty, how on earth would it know when it's at half? :D

So is this basically a false statement? This source makes a popular intake for the C5's (starting with the letter "V" ;) ) and he says that he has talked with GM about it.

I've never seen any such timing talbe in Edit. You'd really have to make changes to that table for the blower guys too, so it just does not exist.

the only reason I can think of to have a full tank of fuel before going out on the track... is on a Road Course.. So you dont run out while hammering the gas pedal!!

What I've heard from a VERY reliable source is that when you add around 5 or more gallons to your tank, it will reset your timing table.

I would buy that one, I usually run with less than a 1/2 a tank at the track.

Well what I heard......

actually, a freind said that a reputable tuner told him that if you have some less than desirable gas and get some pinging or knock, the sensors will pick that up and the PCM will switch to a "bad gas" timing table until you add 5 gallons or more, then it will reset. This is apparently to protect your motor in case you do get bad gas.....

What Quin said is what I told him! :D Except I think it is approximately 4 gallons. It is a bad gas time table.

I think either you or the person you talked to misunderstood or misstated the reason he fills up before going to the track. It would make sense to add gas right before going to the track to make sure you are reset to the most aggressive time table. Of course, if you get bad gas, you will end up on the bad gas timetable anyway. My bad gas timetable has been eliminated by making it the same numbers as the normal table via ls1 edit. I absolutely cannot use anything but super in my tank, and I have to be careful about detonation. If I get any detonation, I will have to drain my gas and put some new gas in. Sometimes the knock sensors can think you have bad gas when you don't and you end up on the bad gas table. This is not good from a performance standpoint, so that is why mine has been eliminated.

I hope this clears it up. That is what I know. I am sure others know more, and they are free to correct me if I'm wrong! :jester :seeya

I have heard this too, but more to do with lower octane. When you put new gas; as in a fill up, the computer assumes you put higher octane in this time and will reset the knock sensors. Don't know how long it takes for the computer to figure out that you put low octane back in though.

To be totally honest, I've always thought my car ran stronger on a full tank as opposed to when it starts getting low. I can't actually pinpoint it to >half tank, but it just seems to have more kick at 3/4 and above. Maybe it's just the same internal meter that makes it feel like your car is faster after you remove the MAF screens.
