Default Heads and Cam

I have a 2000 C5 z51 and I am in the middle of a cam upgrade to the TSP 228R cam and LS6 heads and intake. Everything is going reasonably well but when I go to torque the ls6 heads to the block with the first pass to 22ft/lbs all are flush with no issue but bolts 4, 7 and 8 are torqued to 22# but not flush with the block with the others. What is the issue? Does this head block combination require a mix match of the early 2000 head bolts and the later 01 head bolt lengths? The heads are remanufactured stock heads and have not been honed to my knowledge.

So, the bolts are pulling up torque before meeting the head surface?
Did you chase the threads in the block with a tap before you installed the new heads and bolts?
Also, were it mine, I would not go back with the oem head torque to yield bolts, I would go with ARP and skip the torque to yield mess.

Also, be absolutely sure there is nothing, especially fluid in the bolt holes in the block. You can crack the block if you try to compress a liquid with the bolts.

I chased all teh treads and got a ton of crud out of them. Switched to APR bolts and everything is good to go. Now if I can find the time to get the rest of the front of the car together.

Auto or manual? If it’s an auto, converter? Let me know how it drives.
