Heading back to Florida’s natures coast and thinking of servicing the transmission. My brothers pole barn/garage has a lift, this isn’t a complicated job, is it? Pan removal filter removal and reinstall put back together and top off, right? 1998 coupe with 131k stock vehicle.
Not hard, you tube it, give it a shot. You fill trans by pumping fluid in through the bottom. Worst thing that can happen is you need to tow it somewhere to have it completed because something went wrong.
It's not difficult to do, but there are a couple of risks (and maybe a few worries).
The pan does not drain completely so removing it risks a spill. You might want something to cover the floor. A big sheet of cardboard works nicely. (I also used a Mighty Vac to suck out the sump as much as I could before dropping the pan.)
Be careful selecting your filter. Remarkably there is one on RA that (when you bother to read) is for "Z06, shallow pan", and it does not fit. My antenna weren't up. I didn't know the Z06 ever had an automatic.
I found the original filter seal to be too tight to remove without possibly damaging something.
The fill/drain plug is right up next to the exhaust. It looked worrisome, but the exhaust doesn't actually get very hot before the second fill.
Its not complicated at all, however you need to follow the procedure to the T
Hardest part was removing the filter bushing, some people just leave it in there but I wanted it done complete.
I wore a sleeve sock to avoid being burnt by the exhaust.
