To heck with the price, which is the better gasket?
Well, that is a difficult question, but for a stock engine with no machining, the stock gasket will be better. Idealy, you will want to use the gasket that the block was torque plate honed with as they all apply slightly different stresses on the block. I do realize that the factory engines are not torque plate honed, but the gasket that they used was designed with that in mind.
Long story short, Fel-pro for a built engine, Stock for the stock engine.
Good Luck, and we do have both of these gaskets in stock if you need either of them.
Fel9284PT is an OEM replacement gasket for the early style GM head gaskets. They are not the MLS style gaskets, but for heads not compatible with the MLS gaskets these are nice OEM style replacements.
If you can't find them from a local parts store, we have them in stock.
Thanx Mike. My car was the silver convertible you couldn't dyno a couple weeks ago due to the miss at idle. Looks like the the valve is bent. Should have had you tune it "before" I bounced it off the rev limiter a few times. I'm looking into a set of 5.3? heads off the pick ups that have been worked over for an LS1 application.:D
