Hey I have a 02 zo6 with 42K ish miles, sometimes she starts sometimes she don’t. When it starts, it cranks and fires immediately but when it doesn’t, the only thing I hear is the fuel pump. I’ve done the ignition switch cleaning and clutch switch replacement, and sometimes I’ve been able to start it by rowing the shifter through the gears. Don’t know if that actually changed anything or if it just felt like starting after I played with the shifter, but it’s worked a handful of times, but I’ve had to bump start it quite a few times. It has a new battery and alternator.
Also it was sitting for a few months, I started it up and did a 1700 mile road trip, it handled it fairly well. Didn’t start a few times but was able to fiddle with it and it started eventually. Threw up a P-1441 EVAP system code, and sometimes it goes away but it definitely smells like it’s running rich. Only mods are air intake and a tune. Yall got any thoughts? Any help or tips for diagnosis in the right direction?
The very first thing to check is the TDR relay, it is located above the BCM in the passenger footwell area behind the toe board. The TDR is the relay that sends power to energize the starter. Rowing thru the gears does not have any thing to do with the car not starting as there is no interplay between the shifter/transmission and the starter circuit. Hold the key in the start position and press and release the clutch pedal, you should be able to hear the TDR turn on and off.
