2000 c5 base auto
It sounds like an obvious trans issue but its just odd. When going to second i have to let off the gas and apply it again to get the car going. I have to get the car to a certain speed to actually be able to accelerate. If i dont rev the car high enough and let off gas and apply again it will just rev in place then jerk. Foot to the floor the car will rev up to the limiter and bang a little then shift.
1st make sure the fluid level is right and follow the correct procedure to check it. Any codes? Probably when you get up to speed in 1st and let off the gas it is skipping 2nd gear and going straight to 3rd. You may or may not have 4th. If this sounds right then your options are probably one of these. The 2-4 shift band is worn or broken. The 2-4 servo is bad. 1 or more shift solenoids are bad. Unlikely but possible is a bad electrical connection. If you have a scanner you can watch the shift solenoids to see if they are working correctly. If the band is broken that means a rebuild. The solenoids can be replaced while the trans is in the car. If the servo is bad it can be replaced with the trans in the car but it is difficult. If the band is worn, it is possible to lengthen the servo pin (or buy a longer pin) and possibly gain 5,000 to 10,000 miles before a rebuild. If none of this makes any sense to you then you need to visit a shop. And don't keep revving it when you think it is in 2nd. If the band is still good you will burn it up.
