Default Getting 400hp

On a 2000 coupe is it reasonable to get close to 400hp with bolt on mods? I know that it is 345hp stock. What mods would be best to do this? I was thinking to start off getting the Blackwing or Vortex air intake and Power Air Duct. Where should I go from there? Thanks in advanced!

Hi there I would take a look at doing an LS6 intake, under drive pulley, and the LG long tube headers next.

At the crank yes, at the wheels, no. I would begin with a good cold air box setup which would add approx. 15-20 H.P., a cooler T-stat (a 172 degree would be fine) will add a few ponies & some computer dyno tuning using the LS1 edit software is probably your best bet. You may not hit 400 H.P. but you'll be in the ballpark.

I think he needs to tell us what budget constraints he has in mind first. My ideas are with less than $400 spent.

If I were starting over with modding a C5 I would skip the bolt ons and go straight to Heads and Cam. :yesnod:

If you're doing a pulley swap, might as well do the cam at the same time. It's a lot of labor for 10 HP. :yesnod:

I really was looking for cheap additions for the first couple mods. Then I can save up for the bigger more expensive ones.

Forget the Power Duct that will give you 0 HP. Headers, LS6 intake, Donaldson Blackwing & LS1 Edit tuning should get you close to 400 HP at the crank. I would not install an underdrive pulley unless I was also swapping the cam.

Cartek Stage 2 Heads
Cartek M Cam
LS6 Intake
TPIS Headers
Underdrive Pulley

Rev 1116 Valve Springs

LS1 Edit Tuning
ST3500
3.73 Gears
B&M Trans Cooler
Hurst Line Lock

It wasnt so much the Idea of trying to get you to spend the most money you could. My personal experience with $1,000 Bolt On Mods always lead to dissapointment with the actual HP I ended up with. This is why I said get heads and cam for real performance you wont be dissapointed with.

Here is a classic case of what I am talking about. This guy goes out and spends good money on Headers, air box, exhaust and ignition wires, and gets 20 rwhp. Granted the only HP items he purchased were headers and airbox. On those Items alone he spent $1700 just for the parts alone... I have had similar experiences... to see the thread go to http://forums.corvetteforum.com/zerothread?id=491416

This is the reason I endorse big mods... not the little ones that cost you $2500 for 20 rwhp, a little sound and a sour taste in your mouth when it is done.

Install a through-the-shroud cold air box and leave it at that for now. You'll be satisfied with the 25 ponies waiting to be unleashed. If you can install it yourself a Pro-Flow can be had for around $250 from The Vette Doctors!

Dan,

how can u manage to spend LESS THAN $400 for a aftermarket cold-air intake setup, T Stat and DYNO TUNING?

that would be a great deal.

A Pro-Flow cold air system can be bought for around $250, maybe less from The Vette Doctors. A 172 degree T-Stat is less than $50 and the fellas at Vette Doctors will dial your car in for you on the dyno for between $100-$150 using the LS1-Edit Software. Obviously labor is not included on the airbox install and T-Stat.

I called the Vette Doctors and was told that a dyno tune was $700.

Is there some special offer that you ask for to get the $150 price?
