Took my 04 c5 couple automatic with 155k miles to a corvette shop out of town about 100 miles away to get diagnostic of where oil leak was coming from.
Turned out to be rear main and oil pan. The estimate was double what it was over phone so I drove it 100 miles back into town. Drove it few miles to work a few days then about 15 miles to closer shop who did it for about 1500 less.
The issue is that now im being told after it's all done...it won't shift into 3rd or 4th gear. It was 100% fine and fluid shifting last 5 years up until I dropped it off. He is saying nothing he did could have caused it but the odds of it being a coincidence seem a little outrageous to me.
What could it be? He pulled engine and replaced all seals. Replaced oil pan gaskets and balancer.
3-4 clutch packs are a known weak point in the 4l60e trans. Mine went out at 99K miles. You have 50% more on yours. Before anything check the fluid level and make sure you follow the correct procedure. Also check for any codes especially for the O2 sensors. There is a shared fuse there. Good luck.
Thanks! I doubt it is the clutch pack. Thr clutch pack going out "coincidentally" the EXACT moment following the engien being removed and sealed after it passing inspection by corvette shop with flying colors 4 days prior and driving perfectly fine for 200 miles the days preceeding the work is around the same probability as winning the powerball if not less likely.
