With relay 42 and fuse 2 out, the lights go off!!
Now what does that mean?
Where should I go from here?
I don't have the exact schematics in front of me just this moment, but it suggests that 12 volts is back feeding through the mirror from fuse #2. I'll have to look when I get home.
Might be hard to read, but here is the diagram I found from the manuals.
Yeah, I'll stick with my schematics. From what I can see, the only way the mirror map lights and courtesy lights could stay on with relay 42 pulled, is if the mirror was allowing 12 volts to back feed from fuse #2. There are a few checks that can be done to verify that, but you'll have to take it to a shop for that if schematic reading is not in your wheelhouse. This is as far as I go on this.
I would suspect if you pull fuse #2, and install relay 42, the lights will work normally. Remember, they will only shut off when you turn the key to on with the doors closed, or lock the car with the doors closed, etc.

Are you sure you are waiting long enough? Mine won't turn off until about 20 minutes after I turn the car off.
No that is NOT normal operation for the courtesy / mirror lights. You have something turned on, and as mentioned, the load monitor is turning the lights off............or you have a different problem.

BTW you were right, but then I dont have auto dim feature or the ability to turn the reading lights on via the buttons.
I suspect the mirror has a fault internally now. No other way for the voltage to feed back.
New to C5s but not cars in general, seems the C5 has some solder joint issues, re HVAC lights.
With the mirror unplugged, do the rest of the interior light work correctly? If not, what are the problems?
With the mirror unplugged, all the interior lamps come and go off as they should. If I unlock via fob they turn on to welcome me, and go off soon after I start the car. When I turn the car off they come on until a door is opened and go off shortly after, as expected.

So, it seems your earlier statement that there was a problem in the mirror itself is true.
Yes I think so, Frodo84, just wanted to be sure there were no electrical things else for me to check before getting another mirror.
Now to try and remove the mirror, seems I need a special pry tool.
Sorry for the thread jack - my mirror has gone (like other things I won't discuss) "floppy," losing it's position when driving over Colorado's less-than-pristine roads.
Is there any fix or am I stuck with jamming "blue pills" into the joints it moves on?
