This older comment from Talon90 back in 2011 did not recommend swapping the '09-13 rake into older C6 due to all the electronics involved;

But then again that was many years ago and time, as well as enthusiastic persistence marches on.

I see that jonofmac has done the complete C6 subframe swap with the '09-13 steering rake. I have a friend that has done the C6 Z06 magnesium from sub frame swap (not sure what rake he is using) but he has the lighter C6 engine mount brackets, but all of that is in one of his NASA race cars. I was just wondering how or if the electronic software issues were addressed and if it is compatible with the C5 and say the active handling (early vs later) systems.

Sorry. I don't get emails for thread mentions lol.

I did do a c6 subframe swap on my c5 to a 2012 or 13 GS rack. I had that rack leak and i actually threw in an 09 rack, which is in it now. I have NEVER had any errors due to this. Plug and play electronics wise. No changing c5 modules. my steering works, it's not unusually heavy or light, it just feels good. My C5 is a 2001, so it is on the "late" EBCM design. I cannot comment how well this would work on an early EBCM design (1997-2000), but for 01+ it seems totally fine. Now the car is used primarily for drifting so it doesn't see much street use. The only "gotchas" with a c6 subframe and steering rack swap was: you'll have to drill holes for your engine mount or slot the diff mount to account for the extra 1/2" shift either forwards or back. I opted for drilling the holes for the motor mounts in the subframe. The steering shaft 180* alignment knub is backwards on a c6 shaft vs a c5. So I just took a cut off wheel/flap disk and ground it down and it slid right in. Just have to take care to not let your steering wheel/clock spring spin around while doing this. You want to make sure everything is centered!

I also have a c6 z06 (2006) that also developed a steering rack leak. Said screw it and picked up an 09 rack and threw it in. Surprise surprise, no issues, no warnings, no errors, steering works. I daily my C6z and have put ~8k miles on it since I did this rack swap. No issues. I'm not sure why people mention you can't swap steering racks. I've now done it in both c5 and c6, across supposedly incompatible years and have experienced no issues moving from my 06 rack to an 09+ rack. The ratios being different might cause an issue with full lock and stability control or something, but I do canyon runs in this car and have taken it on track and never experienced any issues.

TLDR: As someone who has swapped a c6 rack into a c5 and had no software issues/brake issues/dash issues/steering issues an swapped an 06 C6 Z06 to a 2009 steering rack and had no software/brake/dash/steering issues, I'd say it's probably perfectly fine to do it. I've put 15k miles on my c5 with the new rack and 8k miles on my c6 with the new rack.

Excellent information to have I wouldn't mind picking up a 6 Z06 front or rear magnesium crossmember for these purposes.

Bit of a heads up, the rear leaf spring design is different on a C5 vs C6 and is NOT compatible. So you'll either have to switch to C6 leaf spring in the rear or go coils. In the C5, we had a weird unique through bolt design in the rear. On a C6, it's the same design as the front. Also I can't confirm it for sure but I've heard that your wheel will sit in a physically different location (front/back) than it does on a C5 sub frame in teh back.

I can confirm that the length of a torque tube + trans + bell housing is longer on a C6 vs a C5, and I suspect this is why I had to do some drilling. (This was how I figured it out in the first place. We test fit things in there and used a bare block.

Oh I'm already there. C6 cradle (later version). C6Z wavetrac diff. Custom 6060 with sprayers and a ZR1 5th gear. It had RideTechs but has Vikings ready to go in. The different wheel placement and suspension alignment becomes much more blatant when you've got borg delrin bushings.
