I need to replace the solenoid due to a snapping-off the solenoid engagement stud. Thought the nut was turning.....nope, it was the stud twisting and breaking off!
I know I can just get a new or rebuilt starter, but all I really need is a replacement solenoid. I went searching and was not able to find one that says it fits my '04.
Anyone happen to know of a web source for starter solenoids?
Does not look like I can replace the broken-off stud as the case needs to be removed. The case appears to be compressed and not serviceable.
Yes I agree...replace the entire starter.
As far as I know, it is the original starter, so 21+ yrs old now. Just makes no sense to put that old starter back on.
And after reading on the Forum, think I will get a starter that uses two long bolts.
Ah, the good old days of SBC, I couldn't afford to replace the starter, so I'd buy a kit that consisted of new brushes, and bushings, also if the solenoid cover wasn't broken we would loosen and turn the main terminal 180 degrees to get new copper contact area, and maybe replace the starter drive if it was acting up.
