Are you asking about stock aluminum wheels? We used to call them "mags". I am in the wheel manufacturing business (Fikse).
Street rodders used to do this all the time when they made their own wire wheels.
The only way I could see doing it would be to find an extra set of wheels, chuck em up in a lathe and part off the back side at a farely "flat" part of the inside wheel profile. Then take your existing wheels and part them off to assemble the width you prefer. Then you would have to exactly line up the halves and reweld without warping.
By the time you got done, you could have bought ANY wheel in the world manufactured for the vette and had them gold plated.
Sorry  I was going to keep my stock rims until I had a little "sports injury" that mandated replacement of the rims. I'll bet you can find an aftermarket wheel that is pretty close. Good luck.
I'm sure somebody can do it, probably out in California. I'm still looking, but I'll do this before I spend $3000 on a whole complete set of new rims. Dirt track guys do it all the time, just ask around and find a person and place you can trust.
I have a set of 99' 17's I would like to get this done on. But then again, if put in an inch ring, would I need spacers? If I needed spacers, wouldn't that transfer weight to the inner side of the tire, putting stress on my bearings and studs and resulting in less of a contact patch anyway, canceling out the benefit?
In the tires and wheels section of this forum, people talk that they have had their ALUMINUM wheels widened all the time. They talk about $400 for a pair. Several shops that do this are mentioned by name.
