I’m happy with the KnightDrive TV C5 TripLED Install so far on my 2004 Corvette Z06 Commemorative Edition. Everything tested properly through step 24 on the video. My problem occurs with the relay installation.
I disconnected the negative battery connection and installed the wires as instructed. As soon as I reconnect the battery, the headlight motor pops up the lights. The lights are not on, but they are up in the “on or up” position. Turning the light switch activates the lights, but they do not retract.
I rechecked my connections and grounds, but the headlights still “pop up” when the battery is reconnected.
Which fuses have you connected the relay to? You should be connected as follows;
Red wire to fuse 10 left low beam
Black wire to fuse 9 right high beam
The black wire with the split ring terminal should go to the ground on the frame rail next to the battery.
The red wire with the split ring terminal goes to the battery post on the fuse block.
Hi Gary,
Thank you for the feedback. I rechecked everything this morning and I still get "pop-up" with everything wired correctly when I connect the battery.
These are photos when the relay is not connected:
Parking:
Low Beam:
Hight Beam:
Relay Connected:
Wires in fuse box a little different than the 2023 video, but self explanatory:
Wires connected properly per video. I rechecked all four connections for a second time today. (Battery not connected for photo):
Wired as above and battery connected, the headlights pop-up immediately without lights. If I switch the lights on, with the relay connected, the lights work just like pre-relay. The relay should keep the low beam lights on when the high beams are activated--that is the purpose of the relay (and not pop-up the headlights).
Based on this testing, I think I have a bad relay, unless someone else has a suggestion.
Relay replaced and headlight motor still pops up the headlights (without any illumination). Turn on the light switch and I get the same halo, low and high as in testing, but not all six lights illuminating for high beam. Frustrated...
Hi Travis,
Per your recommendation, I turned on the headlights (engine off), turned on the high beams, then shut off the headlights. The headlights then retracted and stayed down--normal.
However, my driver's side low beam lights no longer work. Driver's side high beam is the single light. On the passenger side, I properly get low beams (two lights) and three lights with high beams. So the relay is working as advertised on the passenger side to turn on all three lights.
I have no idea what happened the the driver's side low beams. They tested correctly and were working yesterday as I did trouble shooting. I reseated the fuses today. My headlight connections are secured with zip ties, so there should not be a problem unless they got hung up somehow. I'll check that next.
I disconnected the relay and my driver's side low beams work again. I have no idea why the low beams do not work with the relay connected. I have reseated the fuses several times. Getting very frustrated...
Hi Travis,
I appreciate your advice got me a step forward. The problem should be related to the relay and connections because everything tested correctly to that point, based on the video. Maybe I have bad connections; I have rechecked them several times, but maybe I'm missing something.
I built a Factory Five Cobra-Replica several years ago, so these types of connections are nothing new to me, hence my frustration.
Hey, Nate. I would venture a guess to check circuit grounds for the systems involved. It seems either headlamp assembly have separate grounds. Just a quick guess. This link may also be helpful.

The ground wire for the relay connected to the bolt on the firewall is not a good ground. There is a chassis ground below the battery that you should use. It is the lower post for the battery den mounting tab.
You also need 2 fuses in the fuse holder that goes into fuse 10. Looks like you just have one fuse in it. It is a 10A fuse.
Those 2 items should take care of your issues. If you need more assistance PM me here on the forum.
I needed a second fuse for the fuse adapter plug-in, just like Gary suggested. I'm assuming one fuse for left low beam and one fuse for right low beam. My ground connection appears to be fine (for now).
Thank you for your assistance. Added a second fuse to this adapter.

In a fuse tap as shown in your picture, the top fuse is for the new circuit ( red wire). The bottom fuse is for the original circuit. BTW, the fuse tap has polarity. You need to connect it so current flw through the top fuse.
