You need to pop off the shift pattern, take a pair of needle nose vice grips, lock onto the "key" and tap the vice grips upward with a hammer. After removing the key the **** will screw off...

:iagree: As long as it's a factory **** you're removing. Do a search and find a lot of good tips on this topic.
Have patience if it's a factory ****. The shift pattern will pop off esily. The wedge will take some time and work. Mine was a pain. Once the wedge is out it will unscrew easily. Good luck.

You might want to put a drop of WD40 on the key and let it soak for a few minutes. Mine popped right out.
I had to use vice grips, a block slightly taller than the shifter, and a screwdriver about 16" long.
Put the block behind the shifter.
Clamp the grips on the L & R sides.
Stick the screwdriver through the hole and rest the tip on the block.
PULL UP ON THE HANDLE!!!
Hey guys thanks for the suggestions. Finally found time yesterday to mess with this and the block of wood, needle nose vise grips, screwdriver was the winning tactic even though i broke the key in 3 pieces new alum. **** looks cool .... :hat  :hurray:

One of our Corvetteforum buddies in Germany sent me two of these really cool paint can openers. You hook them under the Biotch Key, pry to the side and the key just pops out. I wish I could find his name to thanks him again. These little beauties probably save me an hour a week. They are the bomb!

Told you Mark!!! Since you've got a lot of experience with the other key removal methods, you really can tell the difference!
These tools are amazing. As a test I put the OEM **** on my (uninstalled) Hurst shifter, hammered the pin/key in. It sat a lot tighter than on my stock shifter. I had to use much more force than before, but removing the pin still was just a matter of seconds!

Re: Removing shifter ****? (CR555)
Thanks again Don,
Hey I was looking at the back of you car, I could see how the license plate blocks the US version of back up lights so your inner tail lights have the clear back up lights, but are those other red lights on the bumper required by law there in Germany?

Those things look perfect for the job.
A couple of screw drivers works well also. I have never not been able to remove a key this way on 12+ stock shift *****.
