Default Anyone ever removed this?

Hopefully someone will have some insight here. I’m trying to pull this metal bracket thing away from the firewall preferably with the pedals still attached. I’m doing this to remove the rubber and foam insulation that rides behind it and replace with better less-stinky-and moldy insulation.

I’ve got the 6 visible bolts out that go into the top and bottom dash support/bar things. What else needs to be unbolted?

Have you taken the brake booster off yet?

Hanging pedal bracket is also the structural component/backer for brake booster on many GM vehicles.

I have not, but I will look into it. Thank you for your insight!

Thank you so much for the tip on the brake booster! I got the 4 brake booster nuts undone. It’s moving a LOT more now but it feels like it’s still attached somewhere. Any more ideas?

There may be those thin spring steel deformable washers/locks under the booster bracket and/or a couple more studs underneath that secure the pedal bracket, but do not have anything to do with the booster itself.

Intriguing. Thanks for keeping us posted.

I'm in for info. I am familiar with most of the areas here inside the dash but have never removed this piece nor truly seen behind it. As one who likes to insulate and sound deaden probably too much for these cars it is a curiosity. Though I don't intend to ever go back in there until or unless a blend door fails.
