Does anyone know of a thread within the forums that addresses this? I'm not 100% sure that I even need to replace it, but I'm refreshing my C5 Z and I ordered one as the A/C system was deleted 10 years ago when I began tracking the car.
Any thoughts, threads or links would be greatly appreciated!
I did this last summer. A big job but not a difficult job. The obvious chore is removing the dash and heater box. The non-obvious part is you have to remove the intake manifold to disconnect the evaporator core from the under hood A/C plumbing. Their is a unique bolt that connects the plumbing to the core, its difficult to rethread when you reassemble. I wound up dropping it and it never hit the floor, so I had to find the part number and order a replacement on eBay, otherwise I could have done the job in a weekend.
Definitely replace the heater core while you are in there.
Looking at the schematic, it may actually be the heater core connection that requires the intake removal...regardless, both the heater core and the evaporator have to be disconnected to remove the heater box. #5 is the bolt that is difficult to rethread. It is also a challenge to reattach the condensation drain through the firewall to the heater box. You will have to drop exhaust and remove the starter unless you have tiny hands.
The good news is that I'm actually going to be pulling the torque tube and then also lowering the engine and the cradle. So this is the perfect time to do the heater and evaporator core.
