considering pulling the engine this winter and was going to send the block off with some new performance heads and get the bottom end built and heads installed, car already has btr stage 3 cam, i honestly have no clue anything about pistons, what should i go with? i dont think i want to bore any larger as i do still plan to daily this in summers, goal is max effort NA but still be able to drive 40 min to work and back
On a stock LS1/6 block, you really can't bore it out much anyway, but can do a slight bit to clean it up for new pistons and rings.
Were it me, and was going for a new bottom end build, I would go to the 383 stroker, the way to do that is with a stroker kit, it will come with crank, rods and pistons, plus rings and bearings, be all forged and able to support tons of power.
Don’t even think about it. Send it to BTR for his 383 forged stroker kit, tell him how you drive it and what the car is used for. He will do the rest. Now, is BTR a machine shop too???
thanks for the input, i would send it to a shop to get the work done, i do a lot of work myself but im not equipped and dont feel comfortable doing any bottom end work and i also want to make sure the deck is nice and flat and ill likely have the shop install the heads so they can decide what head gasket to use…with the 383 stroker kit that changes the displacement due to the stroke correct? also what do you guys think ill be cost wise to have the work done? im going to pull the engine and remove the heads myself
Why remove the heads if you're having them reinstall them?
Is there something currently wrong with your bottom end?
My bad, I just reread your original post. What heads are you going to go with?
What fuel?
For a daily have you considered a supercharger?
What kind off power do you want to make?
Auto/manual?
it’s a manual, i kinda want to stick to NA for now, i do think i have a very small external head gasket coolant leak so thats my excuse to spend a lot of money on it this winter hahahaha…i just run 91 pump gas right now, nothing wrong with the bottom end, i do have another oil leak right now that i haven’t tracked down so it would be nice to just re seal everything too…haven’t decided on heads yet open to suggestions
