Are you able to manually shift the car safely with the TransGo? I thought I came across that somewhere in a magazine the last few months, but now I can't find where I read it.

YES !! That's the best part. You can upshift and downshift just like a manual transmission. Sure, crisp and lightning quick shifts...up or down!! :smash:
vstella: I knew you would respond to this! Thanx to YOU I did a Transgo early last year and that has been one of my most "smile on my face" mods. I love my Transgo. :D
Thanks, that's what I thought. I think I will take my manual valve body out when I get a converter and the TransGo so I can manually shift it only when I feel like it.
The 3-4 clutch pack is one of the weakest links in the stock A4 tranny. Manually shifting a stock A4 tranny up and down is not a good idea. A Trans Go Shift Kit does not make your stock transmission any stonger. Before you spend your money it might be a good idea if you checked out the Yank Converters web site under F.A.Q. Yank and other converter makers do NOT recommend using shift kits.

Not being exceptionally techical, I thought I had read quite a few posts on the forum that one of the optimum combinations for an A4 was 3.42 gears / a Yank 2800 or so converter and a Trans Go Shift kit. I also recall reading that manually shifting the A4 does not generate a significant increase in wear and tear.
Have I missed something? Or is it difference of opinions? I have been saving my pennies and dimes to go with such a conversion and now I am quite confused. Any thought or comments out there?
Yank doesn't recommend a shift kit. Here is a qoute from FAQ on their site:
"Is a shift kit required or recommended?
Yank Performance Converters can achieve maximum performance and efficiency without the use of shift kits. Shift kits dramatically raise transmission line pressure to increase shift firmness. Increased shift firmness will not increase performance, but create unnecessary stress on the transmission and other drive-line components. "
I know you have a rebuilt heavy duty transmission, but do you think there would be an issue with the stock A4?
Yeah, but Yank uses them in their transmissions they sell, so go figure?
I think they say that on their site just to protect themselves and to limit liability issues.
The Bandit......................
A race built Tranny like Yank or FLP sells is a different animal than the stock A4 tranny. These tranny's can handle far more abuse(high line pressures) than the stock tranny (at least they are supposed to).
How can you manually shift using the TransGo??? I've always wondered but never asked....
Start at the bottom. . .first. Push the shifter up. . .second. Push the shifter up again, third. You guessed it, push the shifter up one more time, fourth.
Now if you leave it in OD, then the car will drive like normal with the Automatic controlling the shifts. But, if you shift to third. . .the car will stay there. Shift to second, the car will stay in second. Finally, if you shift to first. . .you are staying in first.
I had mine installed Thursday by the Vette Doc's and all I can say is what a difference I didnt want to jump on the car shifting through the gears so I left the car in D and when she shifts into second you could really feel the difference and from a 30 mph role my buddy was in the car with me and when
2nd kicked in the car launched and pinned us to the seats and pulled like never before vstella told me to break it in and it will improve alot more so
I cant wait to start shifting through all the gears manually oh yeah hey
Carmen,Dennis & Joey thanks again!!!!!!!!!!!!
I'm dyin to get one!! Quimbo---you mind me askin what the vette drs charged for the shift kit plus install? I'm thinkin about doin it. I wonder what dealer warranty issues will arise if my tranny goes though. Still, it sounds like an awesome mod.

Ok, so here are my questions...
1)do you stay on the gas throughout the shifts? or do you take your foot off between shifts.
2)how exactly do you disable torque management?
3)the dreaded warranty voiding worries---anyone have problem with dealer warranties after this kit install
4) price of the kit plus install?
I got the transgo at netgearhead.com they have the cheepest price anywhere I paid $88.00 came to $93.00 with shipping. The Docs charged me $210.00
for the install well worth it!!!!!
