Okay, I have a 99 that I’ve had for a little over a year. When I bought it, and up until the time I took it to get the harmonic balancer replaced, preventative, I had zero issues with the car. The only thing that’s wrong is that the headers the previous owner installed are starting to crack and need replaced. When I picked the car up from getting the harmonic balancer done I got an error message on the drive home that said active handling warming up for a while and then service active handling. I called the guy and he claimed that the car just needed an alignment he did absolutely nothing wrong. I took it to an alignment shop and they said the steering wheel position sensor was all over the place. I did some research and talked to a few guys and realized that the sensor was reading 2.5V when the wheel was turned to the right not to the center. Everyone said to unhook the shaft and turn the wheel until it reas 2.5v and lock it down. we did that this past weekend and I took it for a ride and as soon as I tried to make a right turn and apply the brakes the ABS kicks on and I get service active handling on the dash. Now we did move the wheels back manually to straighten them up.
I’m not sure what to do at this point. I know the sensor is reading something because I’m getting 2.5 V with it now at center and the active handling warming up is gone. I just don’t know why the service traction control is now coming on and turning on the ABS. does anyone think it’s possible I damaged the wheel sensor or something and it’s not the steering position sensor? I just don’t wanna have to fix something that doesn’t need fixed. This is especially true given that they dont make new SWPS for 99s and you cant repair the ECBM.
