Hello all, new to the community. I have recently purchased a 2001 Convertible, I saw in one post someone years ago asking about the same issue, but no one responded. I'm not sure how many people are still active in a C5 forum but i figured I would give this a try. When I start the car the info center says service column lock, service tire mon sys, check tire pressure, service vehicle soon, service active handling, remove key 10 seconds' message. I have a friend and the person who i bought from saying that it could be an aftermarket alternator issue. I am also seeing it could be the BCM... Anyone have any thoughts on this. It runs great with no issues.
Welcome to the community! Glad to hear your 2001 convertible is running great despite the warnings. That cluster of messages definitely sounds like it could be BCM-related, but your friend's point about the aftermarket alternator is also valid. I’ve seen a few similar complaints here, so it seems electrical gremlins aren't uncommon. Keep us posted!
Forum remains quite active, though sometimes question responses can lag. There’s a great sticky thread in the beginning of the tech directory particularly on the known issues with alternators — though I don’t recall any issues similar to your description.
Do the DIC notices clear? A number of members, myself included, have trouble with the DIC, with no definitive answer. Some have found replacement of the instrument panel effective, others replace or repair the ignition switch.
The BCM has been noted to cause problems, but I don’t recall it being very common. More often we suffer multiple systems with individual issues.
The service tire monitor and tire pressure can very possibly be a separate issue, often caused by 25 year old sensors in the wheels — if they are there at all.
When you get the service column lock notice can you drive your car? Problems with the column lock is another long term issue with many references.

The first thing I would check is the battery. Fully charge it and if the messages persist have the battery load tested.
The next thing I would suspect is the wiring bundle going to the driver's door. If you manipulate that bundle and the messages go away you may have a chafed wire(s) in there shorting out.

It helps if you provide background/history, not just symptoms.
How long have you owned the car? Did this just happened suddenly? Recent work done? Car stored outside?....if so, in the rain? Was the alternator changed by the PO?

Bought the car with the messages and yes the alternator is aftermarket. Besides that I don't know much more. Runs great and no drivability issues. The only thing i notice is, it wont go in comp mode and traction control doesn't seem to be on even when its states it is.

I have advice to all that are considering owning or now have a C5; find a reputable corvette shop in your area (your local area corvette club has the names) to give information for inspection before purchase and repairs after purchase. No matter what your mechanical experience is working on vehicles, the C5 is loaded with anomalies and it takes persons very experience with this platform to fix stuff and not just throw money on maybe fixes. From experience, JMHO.
