Default C5 Oil pan pan replacement.

I just did the transmission and clutch on my c5 corvette, and I figured while it’s this far in I should do my oil pan gaskets, specifically the upper one. My friend has an LS6 upper and lower oil pan along with the pickup tube, and i’ve heard that the ls6 oil pans are better due to the baffling. It’s just the pan though, and I was wondering if the windage tray from my c5 base will work?

Parts manual shows the same part numbers for the deflector (baffle) and oil pan on the ‘01 LS1 and LS6.

I never understood the pan to be different other than than one was 2 piece allowing you to see the pick up. If you are doing track events, autox etc. I'd go 2 piece and get an Improved Racing baffle kit and crank scraper. If it is a cruiser, I would not change the pan.

That is exactly what I did with my '99 FRC for those reasons.

Default Crank Scraper question

Hi,

It looks like you installed the Crank Scraper from the bottom with the engine in the car?

If yes, knowing what you know now, how did that process go? Any tips not noted in the instructions?

Sorry for the delayed reply. I used the Kent-Moore tools #J-41803-1, -2 &-10, #J-28467-6, -7, plus a 2" square 0.12" wall 36" long steel tubing section #6527K384 from McMaster-Carr. I had already planned to drop the front subframe to do a lot of other work, such as replacing all the rubber bushings in the front suspension, replacing the a/c compressor, the front shocks, front brakes, etc... Hindsight being 20/10, I should have also done a few other things at the same time like; pulled the steering rack and sent it to Turn One for a rebuild, replaced the harmonic balancer with the ATI unit as well as installed the C6 ZR1 knuckles/spindles along with the SKF Tracker X bearings.
