Stripped C5 hood nut plates.

Stripped C5 hood nut plates.
Bolts securing the hood to the hinge are stripped. Is it possible to repair using helicoil or is there another way to fix. I’m not sure if it is a nut plate or backing plate.

I just looked at mine. It looks like the "bolts" are pressed in studs from below. They use a nut-sert kind of press. One solution might be to use a die and re-thread the studs to a smaller size. Good luck and let us know.

Thanks for the feedback. My issue is with the upper hinge that attaches to the hood. It is secured with a bolt. The hood appears to have a nut plate inside the hood to secure the hinge to. I’m thinking about using a helicoil but afraid the nut plate may spin.

Sorry, I was looking at the frame side, not the hood side. Can't hurt to try the helicoil if the other three bolts are good. Another option is to (ouch!) drill a 1" hole in the plastic from the other side, remove the stripped insert and use a traditional bolt with a flat washer. Hopefully someone who has made this repair will chime in.
