Shifter centering spring replaced, still having issues
Replaced the centering spring with a brand new one that was noticeably stiffer. Well the shifter and even the bare shift rod still won't pop back into the middle from 5-6. I took off the shift plate cover and it'll center from all positions if I manipulate the shift mechanism that way, just doesn't do so via the shift rod. Any idea what may be going on?
Worth nothing that I found a not-insignificant amount of RTV chunks inside the transmission, including up top where the aforementioned cover is. Could it be possible that some of that fouled something somewhere and is causing the hang up? Might take apart the detent / shift paddle (whatever it may be called) mechanism to check for debris
Quick update here: Issue is gone after reinstalling everything in the car. Cleaning up the old lube and re-centering the shifter probably helped as well. The centering action is still noticeably more pronounced from 1-2 than from 5-6. WAY better than before though.

Texas Drivetrain Performance. It's not listed on their site, you have to call or e-mail them.
