I have a 2003 C5Z and the back up lamps stopped working (bummer since it's my back up camera circuit also). manual says it's controlled by a relay in fuse box under hood, how do you remove that? Now before I go any further let me say the the lights don't work when I unlock the car ether. Any ideas where to start?

The back up lights receive 12 volts from two different sources depending on the control mechanism
1)Through the backup lamp /PNP switch - via the relay(not energized) fuse 21 in the passenger footwell fusebox
2) Through the backup lamp relay (energized from the BCM) - fuse 2 in the underhood fusebox
If pulling a relay or checking a fuse is foreign to you, you may be better served by taking it too a shop.
Thank you, according to the wiring schematics my problem must rest with the reverse switch. let me get to jacking the car up, maybe I can jump the switch to prove it's the problem.

.....you stated the backup lights do not work when you unlock the car, so that means neither the BCM energizing the relay nor the backup switch are turning on the backup lights. That suggests the problem is between the underhood fuse box and the backup light bulbs........
Even better, you can start right at the relay socket in the underhood fuse box with a test light...before you even have to get on your hands and knees.

No problem, got under the car and jumped the connector for the back up switch and lights worked. Replaced the switch and everything is good. I'll just hang onto the schematics thank for you input.
