Default Options?: 1998 EBCM cooked M version
1998 w/o AH EBCM almost caught fire
Hi all, new guy here. I've had my late model 98 m6 since new. Never a problem until yesterday. Got a U1040 comm error code then bam smoke!

EBCM and harness are toast. Nearly a fire.

What are my options? Conversion seems possible, but ok for non AH car?
Run without abs and tc?
Replace with same off eBay (yuk)?

Just looking for a bit of advice and comfort at this point!

Used EBCM from a 97-98 with a rear mounted unit = $$$$.
Conversion is possible but it's more complicated since our cars don't have A/H.

Yeah, that's what I'm afraid of... My EBCM is front mount if that makes a difference

It does. Late 98 builds received a front mounted EBTCM.

Active Handling (JL4) option started in 1998 MY, it was not a half-year option to the best of my knowledge.
