I’m in the process of buying another C5 and it has a set of oppressively loud mufflers attached to what look like 3/5-4” tips. I don’t mind the tips, I don’t want to spend $$$ for a new axle back setup. I was curious if anyone ever had a muffler shop switch out a set of C5 mufflers for something else and weld it all back together?
Thanks folks!

Have you inspected the car? On a lift, etc? Could have straight pipe, no cats, etc. Ridiculously loud exhaust is almost a sure sign of other douchebaggery. Lot's of great C5s out there....keep looking.
C5 uses an uncommon muffler since they are both in/out on the same side so there are not many options here. By the time you purchase mufflers and pay someone to weld them in (hopefully they do a good job so they don't rust out in a few years), you are probably better off just getting a cheap Ebay axle back (Corsa sport knockoff) , reviews suggest they are on the quiet side.

Thanks Monty, I’ve been very curious about those Ebay ones but I don’t want to be a guinea pig and be sorry. I appreciate your description of the C5 muffler, I never thought about its configuration. A friend of mine has a good guy who did it for him, so I’m still on the fence.
Would a set of stock axle back suffice for now? I had my stock exhaust in my garage for years and ended up giving them a way when someone local to me had a similar need.

truthfully, I’d rather get it right the first time. Besides, I really don’t like those oval tips.😉

My catback is a $350 Corsa-clone. It's well built out of polished 304 SS, sturdy construction, mild sound level w/o any drone. The only downside for some people is if they want something louder. I wouldn't hesitate to buy them, again.
Do you even know what axle back you have? Maybe it’s worth some money. Don’t cut it up and throw a bigger muffler in there until you figure out what you got.

I don’t plan to cut it up. It has large mufflers that fill the space like stock. I didn’t see any identifying marks on it when I looked at it. I’m sure someone will want it.
