So, 2000 Corvette, 127,000 well maintained miles. Drove to work Friday of last week with nary a sound and Saturday morning fired up to a squeal under the hood.
The belt is not new but not old either. The tensioner and belt were replaced around 20,000 miles ago.
I sprayed some belt dressing on it and it really didn't change the noise much. At idle it is quite and below 1500 RPM it seems to be quieter but at acceleration or hard acceleration it just squeals.
My thinking is maybe this is the AC compressor? Is this something someone has experienced?
I'm just trying to get ahead of when I can get under there for serious work in a couple weeks. I was going to buy AC charge, a new belt... remove the belt and spin all the accessories to see if any of them are rough.
Unfortunately, it was top off weather! Thus why I was out and about!
I did stop I a school parking lot to give another look under the hood and helped a kid who just bought his first stick shift though. He liked the Corvette.

Am I on the right path?
Thanks and Keep Rock Alive!
No rocket science here. Belts can wear out prematurely for many reasons i.e. road debris, accessory, pulley, tensioner issues, etc.
I would start be removing main belt and run the engine to make sure that is the offender....as opposed to the A/C belt. Take note of the balancer condition/security/wobble.
I had the same issue last year, replaced belts, pulley, was still there. Ended up being the harmonic balancer, which I learned was a common issue with the C5's.

New harmonic balancer with less than 8000 miles. It’s the first thing I did when I bought the car.
In my case the squeek came from the tensioner not being aligned. Belt was chirping rubbing very subtle on pulley.
I 've learned that these noises can be very confusing and had a Corvette mechanic refuse to take the job...
Thanks for the tip! I have to put new struts on the hood first... hahaha... nothing funnier than a disabled dude trying to hold his hood up AND work under it!
Lucky commented about discerning between the main serpentine belt/pulleys/tensioners and the A/C serpentine drive. It has been my experience that the A/C belt seems to cause more issues than the main belt. But you won't know until you try. I also know that if any antifreeze was spilled on the belts somewhere in the past, the belts will squeal, and there's nothing you can do but clean all the pulleys well and install new belts. Best of luck to you.....
